What isn't covered?

Fetch dog insurance provides coverage for future accidents and illnesses — the stuff you can’t see coming. We don’t cover pre-existing conditions. No one does. We also don’t cover cosmetic or elective procedures like tail docking and ear cropping (unless your vet decides they’re medically necessary). Routine and preventive care, which cover things like spaying and neutering, teeth cleaning, flea and tick protection and vaccines, aren’t covered either.

When should I get pet insurance for my dog?

The sooner you get Fetch, the sooner we can help. If you have a puppy, you shouldn’t wait to sign up. And the same goes if you’ve adopted an older dog, too — it’s likely an older pet will develop a new illness or injury as they continue to age. But, if you wait until your pet gets sick or hurt, we won’t be able to cover your vet visit.

How does dog insurance work?

With Fetch, you have the flexibility to keep your current vet or visit a new vet if you’d like. We even cover specialists and emergency clinics.

Submit a claim in minutes

Just take a picture of your vet documents, answer a few questions about your pet’s treatment and we’ll handle it from there.

Get paid back fast

Once your claim is approved, you’ll be paid back up to 90% of your unexpected vet bill in as little as 2 days via direct deposit.

How much does dog insurance cost?

Our plans average $35/month for dogs and even lower prices for puppies. How do we do it? Using the same data points that power our patent-pending tool, Fetch Forward™, we determine the most accurate pricing based on your pet’s breed, age and your location. From there, you’ve got options. Here are the levers you can pull to either pay less or get paid back more.

Annual coverage amount

The maximum dollar amount you can be paid back per policy year. The higher your annual coverage amount, the more you’ll pay per month.

Annual deductible

The fixed dollar amount you're responsible for paying before your insurance kicks in. Higher deductible plans have lower monthly premiums.

Reimbursement

The percentage of each covered vet bill you’ll be paid back after you meet your deductible. The higher your reimbursement rate, the more you’ll pay per month.

What does dog insurance cover?

Dog insurance helps you cover the cost of unexpected veterinary bills if your pet gets sick or hurt. Fetch provides the most comprehensive coverage for your pup and pays back up to 90% of your vet bills. That means we offer the best coverage including sick-visit exams fees, breed-specific issues, and teeth and gums.

What is a deductible?

If your dog receives veterinary care, the first thing you need to do is submit a claim. Once your claim is approved, the initial amount will go towards the annual deductible that you’ve selected (options range from $250-$700). We’ll start reimbursing your claims after your deductible is met.

Enrolling is easy with Fetch. All you need to do is answer a couple of questions about your pup and you’ll get a free quote that’s personalized to them. Once you sign up, there’s a waiting period (which could be up to 15 days) before injuries and illnesses are covered. (Don’t worry, we’ll email you everything you need to know.) After the waiting period is over, you’re free to begin submitting claims.

When should I get dog insurance?

The key to ensuring your pup has the best coverage possible is to enroll before they need it. Like other providers, Fetch is unable to cover pre-existing conditions. Why veterinarians choose Fetch dog insurance.

Don’t just take our word for it – here’s what a top veterinarian has to say.

“No one wants to think about accidents or illnesses when it comes to their pup, but even the most loved pets aren't immune. Data shows that being proactive about your pet's health is key to giving your dog a longer, healthier life — and Fetch Pet Insurance is the best way to do just that.”

Protect your dog

See what pet parents say about Fetch dog insurance.

We’re proud of our 'Excellent' Trustpilot rating and love hearing about how Fetch has positively impacted our community. Fetch wholly exists so dogs and their parents can enjoy more good days, together.

If your vet recommends it, Fetch probably covers it.

With Fetch, your pup can see any vet in the U.S. or Canada. Like other dog insurance plans — and just like your own insurance — Fetch does not cover pre-existing conditions. That's why it's helpful to get coverage as soon as you can. Getting Fetch means peace of mind, all in one simple dog insurance plan.

Accidents happen. Fetch is here to protect your dog through it all. Here's a look at some of the most common injuries & illnesses that dogs experience — and how much Fetch pays back for each, on average.

Sick-visit exam fees

Every sick visit comes with an exam fee, which can be around $50 – $250. We cover those exam fees for you. Not all providers do.

Breed-specific issues

Other providers charge extra for medical conditions linked to breed (like hip dysplasia in Australian Shepherds), which will be top of mind if you adopt or get a purebred dog. We don’t.

Boarding fees

We care about pet parents, too. Fetch covers the cost to board your pet at a licensed facility should you require hospitalization. Up to $1,000 per year.

Advertising & reward

If your pet is missing, we cover the cost of advertising and pay a reasonable reward for finding them. Up to $1,000 per year.

Name-brand prescription medications & supplements

We cover prescription drugs like antibiotics and anxiety medicine, plus vitamins and other supplements, when recommended by a vet to treat your pet’s injury or illness.

Customize your plan

1 in 3 pets need unexpected veterinary care each year.

Here’s a look at how much English Bulldogs, like Petey, rack up in vet bills in their first 4 years, on average.

Petey's total vet bills:

$6,462

Fetch pays back:

Your dog insurance questions – answered!

What is dog insurance coverage?

If your pet gets sick or hurt, dog insurance coverage reimburses you. Fetch dog insurance offers the most comprehensive coverage in the U.S. and Canada and pays you back up to 90%, making your vet bills more affordable. With Fetch, you won’t have to choose between your wallet and your best friend, and it’s easy to give your dog the care they need to live their longest, healthiest, happiest life.

Why do I need a dog insurance plan?

Every six seconds, a pet parent is faced with a vet bill of more than $1,000. That doesn’t even take into account the rising cost of inflation, or the fact that veterinary medicine is getting better – and more expensive. Fetch dog insurance plans give you protection from these increasing costs and peace of mind that’s priceless. Everything from allergies to name-brand prescriptions to a cracked tooth — and so much more — is covered by Fetch.

When should I get dog insurance coverage?

The sooner you enroll, the sooner your dog’s covered. Fetch covers pets of all ages, but to make sure your pup gets as much dog insurance coverage as possible, it's best to sign up before they need it. Like other pet insurance providers, Fetch is unable to cover pre-existing conditions – which is why we recommend signing up as early as possible. Insuring your dog before health issues develop is recommended, so you and your best friend can live your best lives together.

What’s not covered?

Like other dog insurance providers, we are unable to cover pre-existing conditions. These are injuries or illnesses that occur before you enroll or during the 15-day waiting period.

To give your dog more protection, Fetch classifies pre-existing conditions as incurable or curable. This means that a chronic, incurable condition (think: arthritis) is not covered. However, if your dog has a urinary tract infection (UTI) — something that is temporary and curable — then goes one year from the original incident without any symptoms or treatment, your dog's UTI may be classified as curable and covered later.

How much does dog insurance cost and how is it determined?

At Fetch, your dog insurance plan’s cost will never be affected by sex, medical and behavioral history, spay or neuter status and indoor or outdoor status. So what do we factor in when we’re determining your plan’s cost? It’s simple: your dog’s age, breed and location.

From there, you’ve got options. Here are the levers you can pull to either pay less or get paid back more.

Dog insurance terms — decoded:

Annual dog insurance coverage amount
The maximum dollar amount you can be paid back per your dog’s plan annually. The higher your annual dog insurance coverage amount, the more you’ll pay per month.

Annual deductible
The fixed dollar amount you're responsible for paying before your insurance kicks in. The higher your deductible plan, the lower your dog insurance plan will cost per month.

Reimbursement
The percentage of each covered vet bill you’ll be paid back after you meet your deductible. The higher your reimbursement rate, the more you’ll pay per month.

How much does a vet visit cost without dog insurance?

The cost of vet visits without dog insurance varies widely and depends on factors like your dog’s breed, age, location and, of course, what brings you and your pup to the vet in the first place.

Let’s say your Australian Shepherd has a bout of vomiting and diarrhea (dogs, they’re just like us!). Your vet bill would cost, on average, $487 without dog insurance coverage. Fetch covers up to 90% of your unexpected vet bills after you’ve met your deductible and copays – in this case, $385 would be covered. Getting Fetch means getting a significant reduction in your vet bill costs, so that your pup gets the medical attention they may need, and you’ll be protected from the full cost of vet expenses if they do.

Why is Fetch dog insurance worth it?

In addition to offering the most comprehensive dog insurance in the U.S. and Canada — period, we offer expert-backed health advice and data-driven insights to help you care for your dog from adorable puppyhood to their golden years.
